Last week I explored the elements of a comprehensive cultural audit.  Once the audit is complete, it is time to give your organization a grade on where you stand on various diversity and inclusion indicators.  The Winters Group advisory board member Julie O’Mara and my esteemed colleague Alan Richter along with 79 expert panelists (including me) developed 13 global diversity and inclusion benchmarks.

The Winters Group suggests that clients use these benchmarks to assess progress.

The 13 benchmarks include:

13 benchmarks

Each of the 13 benchmarks suggests behaviors, activities and strategies at five different levels of proficiency (e.g. 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%). One hundred percent is considered best practice.

The example below shows one benchmark (D&I Vision, Strategy and Business Case) with the descriptors for each of the five levels. Denoted in bold and with an “x” is the organization’s current state assessment.

This comprehensive review using the 13 benchmarks will point to those areas that need attention and will also help you to determine how far you are from best practice.
