Our next Inclusion Solution feature series, “Power to the People,” could not be timelier. This is a watershed, unprecedented time in the political history of the United States and, for that matter, the world.

We have been on a political roller coaster ride the last few years. It intensified to a dizzying, frenzied speed in recent weeks with the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden’s announcement that he would not seek reelection and would endorse Vice President Kamala Harris. These events are indeed game changers that no one could have predicted a month ago. With the election just a little over three months away, there is a lot at stake for all of us, regardless of political affiliation.

The Winters Group has published The Inclusion Solution for over 15 years. Our aim is to provide timely and relevant content that advances diversity, equity, inclusion and justice (DEIJ). While we have not historically focused on politics, we will do so with this series. Core to the political roller coaster we are experiencing is the weaponization and demonization of everything DEI. We can predict that the negative DEI rhetoric will intensify with Harris as she continues on the path to clinching the Democratic nomination. Her intersectional identities as a woman, a Black American, and South Asian American will be easy fodder for the those who are strategically attacking DEI.

We believe voters need resources that can help them weed through the misinformation and disinformation that has been and will clearly continue to be rampant during the election cycle. Given that many of these politically charged topics disproportionately impact people of color and other historically marginalized groups, we want to ensure that their voices and concerns are heard.

From divisive Supreme Court decisions on family planning and affirmative action, to the alarming rise in race- and religion-based hate speech, the need for stories that speak truth to power is more urgent than ever. We are inviting writers from historically marginalized backgrounds and their allies to share personal stories and resources for advocating for issues and policies that are important to them. Topics may include voting rights and representation, to fighting for environmental justice, to ensuring access to equitable education, to taking a stand against the push to ban federal DEI programs.

We hope these posts will inspire and motivate you to action consistent with your core values and beliefs. It is critical at this time in our history that we all do what we can to be a part of the Inclusion Solution!
