We are excited to announce our next feature series for The Inclusion Solution: Racial Justice at Work! Based on our forthcoming book, Racial Justice at Work: Practical Solutions for Systemic Change, this series will explore just that. We are often asked for the “practical, tactical, nuts and bolts” of how to realize racial equity and justice within organizations, and our book and blog series will seek to deliver on this ask.
Complexities inherent to equity and justice can make them feel nebulous, but our work seeks to define them in an accessible way that promotes action-planning and organizational change:
- We will know we have achieved racial equity when race is no longer a predictor of outcome.
- Racial justice entails correcting past and present racialized harm.
Of course, these goals are complex, nuanced, and situated within broader systems of oppression. We must commit to staying the course in order to make progress on racial equity and justice. Rather than accepting the familiar-but-halting, “Our leaders aren’t ready for this,” or “that just wouldn’t work here,” we must ask solution-oriented questions like:
What is possible? What can we imagine?
What examples have we seen? How can we build upon them?
What needs to shift, and how can we illustrate this need to others?
Our team and contributing writers look forward to amplifying emerging answers to these questions throughout this series. We will bring a future-oriented lens to support organizations in responding effectively to a changing world.
