Yesterday was Black Women’s Equal Pay Day 2022. This day recognizes how much longer a Black woman has to work each year to equal a white man’s compensation for comparable work.
Last year Black Women’s Equal Pay Day was August 3, so pay equity is getting worse, not better. The Department of Labor reported that the pandemic widened the pay gap for Black women. Even with all of the attention on racial justice over the past two years, pay equity has regressed.
